Memory foam neck pillows differ in their shape, height and carrying requirements. Start by comparing the pillow against your seated posture, rather than choosing only from a softness description.

Product and fit checks
Look at where the foam sits behind and beside your neck and whether the design includes a closure. A tall back section can feel different depending on the seat's headrest. Try the permitted adjustments without tightening a strap beyond its intended use.
If a removable cover is important, check how it comes off around any straps or closures. Confirm whether a replacement is sold for the same pillow version. Compare the storage instructions with the space in your bag before choosing a compression pouch. A listing showing a tightly rolled pillow does not establish that every foam insert should be stored that way for an extended period.
Choosing for your use
Compare firmness and dimensions using the actual product description. Do not assume that every foam pillow has the same construction or that a higher-density claim establishes better comfort for you. A pillow may help you find a comfortable resting position, but this guide does not promise treatment of neck pain.
Handling and planning
Check how the pillow packs and whether the maker permits compression. Foam inserts and removable covers may need different care; the Tempur-Pedic Travel Pillow is a specific example with separate directions. Follow the exact insert's instructions rather than washing assembled foam because the cover is washable. Account for the pillow's volume alongside the rest of your carry-on contents.
If you expect to switch between a window seat and an aisle seat, consider how the same pillow fits without relying on a wall to support its shape.
