A gasoline or liquid-fuel camping stove requires more attention to fuel specifications and maintenance than a simple product label suggests. Before buying, decide whether you need a model approved for the fuel available on your trip, and whether you are prepared to learn its operating procedure.
Fuel approval is model-specific
Some liquid-fuel stoves accept more than one fuel, but only with the configuration described by their manufacturer. A stove that accepts white gas does not automatically accept automobile gasoline. Multi-fuel capability also does not mean that every jet, bottle or pump can be interchanged.

Do not apply the Universal manual to a similarly named stove or substitute a retailer's summary for the actual fuel and configuration instructions.
Stability and meal preparation
Check the spread of the pot supports against your largest intended pot. Inspect the cooking arrangement on the level surface you expect to use. A large base can be helpful, but an uneven campsite still needs a suitable stable setup.
Decide whether the meals require prolonged simmering or mainly boiling. Compare the manufacturer's description of flame control and the fuel supply required for the planned workload. A maximum-output figure does not answer the simmering question.
Maintenance and carrying
Count the stove, approved bottle, pump and maintenance items when comparing weight and packed space. Check whether replacement seals and parts are available and whether the manufacturer explains the required maintenance. Do not improvise priming, refueling or repairs from a generic article.
Operate only outdoors as the manual permits and follow its lighting, cooling and shutdown procedures. The sensible purchase is a supported fuel system you can operate correctly, rather than a low-priced stove selected from an unverified multi-fuel ranking.
